Problem
Wall Centre False Creek located in the Olympic Village neighbourhood of Vancouver comprises 2 Stratas, 4 buildings, and roughly 600 units.
Over the last few years there was increasing demand from the residents to have shared charging stations installed in the buildings, some of whom even asking if they could install a personal charger in their own parking stalls.
The council estimated that approximately 15-20 residents in the strata owned electric vehicles at the time, but anticipated growing interest in the future from other residents.
After thorough market research on EV Charging and the rebates available at the time, the strata council decided to proceed with installing two shared charging stations and selected Commercial Lighting as their partner for this installation.
Solution
Two Chargepoint Dual Port charging stations were installed among the 4 buildings; one on the East side of the complex and one of the West side, each with two dedicated stalls per charger.
Overall installation cost for the two dual chargers was approximately $27,000 after receiving $8,000 in rebates from BC Hydro.
This also included the cost of adding cell boosters to the parking area which is required for chargers’ communications, but was also an added bonus in general by providing convenience and extra security for anyone using the parkade.
Additionally to help manage charger use and timing, residents will be charged per use at a rate of $2 per hour for the first 3 hours, and $5 per hour after that.
